The Association of South Bohemian Artists (ASBA) is a professional association of artists situated in České Budějovice which is its artistic and organisational centre. It was established immediately of the November revolution, 1989 by the translation of the regional branch of the former Union of Czechoslovak Artists, to guide and support the professional interest of artists under new democratic conditions and to help reorganise fine art in South Bohemia.

The Association groups artists and other creative workers of all branches of fine art - painters, graphics, sculptors, designers of the different spheres of industrial art including persons of art theory. Regarding the number of its members and area it is counted among the largest regional associations co-operating within the framework of the Union of Artists of the Czech Republic, being its regular member.

The Association of South Bohemian Artists accepts its new members on the basis of an approved statute that is to say especially on the principle of the evaluation of submitted artworks and finally by the voting on the membership in a plenary gathering. It makes membership possible in the ASBA for external, foreign and also non-professional artists.

The continuing and very important effort of the ASBA is to endeavour to overcome the deep-rooted negative term "regional culture". For that reason its activity consciously covers not only the presentation of South Bohemian artists but also intends abroad to try to confront good Czech contemporary fine art with first-rate word art.

They have been activity striving pains to overpower the regions close border having already brought unfailing results that led to the regular reciprocal contacts both with traditional partners in the neighbouring countries Austria and Germany and with the artists from more distant countries. The successful exhibition of South Bohemian Artists in Sweden, French Brittany, Ireland, Croatia and others followed by the foreign guest artists in our country were more than a good exchange of the cultural life in the South Bohemian metropolis - in České Budějovice.

The ASBA organise a large international exhibition of contemporary visual art called INTERSALON AJV as a regular annual confrontation of the art production of the members of the ASBA with the national and foreign contemporary art creation.
